The goal of The GET UP Project is to prepare individuals in parenting or educating roles of young people, also called trustees, to be the most effective and resourceful parents and teachers possible. This project provides resources to individuals, who care for children including but not limited to birth parents, grandparents, extended family members (who substitute as parents), daycare providers (or someone wanting to work as an assistant), educators, and foster parents. These adults will get assistance to better understand the developing child and provide support for their child(ren). While parents tend to rely on instinct and role models to know how to parent, the sessions can provide resources for new strategies. Best practices used in the field remain a critical component to personal experience.
Skilled consultants provide services to include skills development, education in effective parenting, readiness skills, communication, and understanding the SOLs. The target age for the children is birth- middle school age children. Kindergarten is not the same kindergarten that you may remember- "This isn't your mother's kindergarten." It is much more advanced than ever before. School age children need to be prepared so they will be successful throughout their educational experience.
